ENGINEERING HANDOFF

Inceptive provides trustworthy, expert-led workshops to new and expectant parents. Finding parenting advice online is easy, but knowing what to trust is trickier. Inceptive curates content by cutting through the noise to cater to parents’ most pressing questions so parents can make the right choices for their families with confidence.

PROBLEM

Finding parenting advice

online is easy, but choosing what to trust is trickier

BUSINESS GOALS

Currently, parents have to go through multiple platforms to participate in the workshop. Inceptive wants to make it easy for parents to find and access live sessions, recorded videos, and ongoing support all in one place. 

SOLUTION

An accessible portal that housed all categories of workshops from live-stream, to on-demand and discovery. 

KEY DESIGN DECISIONS

Stress Free and Centralized 

Make it easy for parents to watch all their purchase –whether they're watching it for the first time or rewatching a past video. Videos are categorized by upcoming live workshops, and ondemand videos.

We also wanted to feature recommended workshops to encourage exploration with Inceptive products.

Safe and Judgement Free Space 

We chose to default the visibility of questions on workshops to private to instructors only to ensure parents privacy and to maintain trust. We also want to emphasize reliability and safety of Inceptive product through 1-on-1 access with experts.

For Moms (and Dads too)

Other parenting resources primarily focus on child needs and often ignore the needs of parents. We want our design to remind parents to take care of themselves.

We surfaced contents that are not just about babies, but also address the parents’ needs: their wellbeing and work-life balance.

LEARNING

Design that impacts higher level needs

As difficult as it is to perceive what the experience is like for parents with babies, it is important to always be curious, patient, and empathetic by expanding our knowledge and skills in the learning process of understanding how to make design that not only help parents raise kids, but remind parents that they too are important in this journey. We worked on the UX writing and content sorting to ensure that Inceptive is not only focusing on baby wellness.

Designers' relationship with engineers

We spent the last stage of the project detailing, annotating our design decisions, and coding-relevant details that the engineer could use to ship the product. Although we never had one-on-one with the engineering team, we knew the relationship designers have are not only centered to our client and parents, but also to our engineers . We wanted to accelerate the process and make sure it’s also easy for engineers.

ROLE

Worked closely with a team of designers to conduct research, create comprehensive design system and hi-fi prototype for workshop portal alongside spearheading developer handoff.
